Local women's rights group the New Suffragettes has launched a website to serve as an online resource with news and events, personal blogs, and resources for supporting women and women's rights. Honoring the lives and work of the original Suffragettes who fought for women's right to vote, the New Suffragettes have been working diligently since the reversal of Roe v. Wade this summer to create a local community group and a helpful online resource to protect and support women's rights today, the group said.
The group may be seen out around town volunteering for voter registration drives and supporting awareness events and women's rights marches in their distinctive purple New Suffragettes t-shirts with logo and design incorporated from the color scheme used by the first Suffragettes.
Most recently the group participated in the Women's Wave 2022 on Oct. 9, a national march originating in Washington, D.C. and featuring sister marches in cities across the United States, including one here in Chattanooga.
The New Suffragettes have been actively working on both local and national issues sInce launching and this fall their main focus has been on voter registration and education, while helping raise awareness, share helpful information and resources, and build a community that actively supports women and women's rights. Now the local women's rights movement has an online home at
www.newsuffragettes.net.
