UTC Students To Launch Charity Art Gallery Benefiting Local Nonprofit

  • Tuesday, November 1, 2022

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga students are launching Pouring for Purpose, a pour painting art gallery, on Nov. 9 at UTC’s University Center to support Partnership for Families, Children and Adults’ victim support services.

The art gallery will feature more than 40 hand-poured paintings made by UTC students for a project in an Ethics in Criminal Justice course within the Department of Social, Cultural and Justice Studies. The painting project is sponsored by a classroom mini-grant from UTC’s Walker Center for Teaching and Learning.

Course instructor and Assistant Professor Dr. Katelyn P. Hancock organized the charity art gallery. Through a vote, students selected Partnership to receive funds raised.

“I really wanted a project that allowed our students to think and create in a critical way that would ultimately do some good in our community,” said Hancock. “This grant has really allowed us to do just that, and I’m excited to lift up Partnership through the gallery.”

The gallery is open to the public on Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 642 E. Fifth St. in Chattanooga Room C 220. Student paintings can be purchased with cash. All proceeds will then be donated to Partnership's victim support services.

Partnership’s victim support services offer a multitude of programs to help and protect those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Critical services include the overnight domestic violence shelter for victims of domestic violence, forensic medical exams for sexual assault victims and a 24-hour crisis hotline. In the last year, Partnership’s emergency shelter provided 13,162 nights of safe refuge and responded to 2,229 crisis hotline calls.

“Partnership is so grateful to be the beneficiary of this wonderful event, as our many programs are only made possible thanks to the generosity of our community,” said Partnership’s Director of Philanthropy Sharon Love.

Partnership welcomes local businesses and organizations interested in giving back through charitable initiatives, such as a charity sale or round-up campaign, to reach out to the Partnership philanthropy department at rrickman@partnershipfca.com.
