Joe Cauthen
Joe Robert Cauthen, Sr., 82, of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 2, 1940, in Baltzer, MS to the late Martha Montgomery Surrett and the late Cecil Cauthen. He was a graduate of LaFayette High School in 1958. He served in the Air Force stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1958 to 1962. Upon completion of his Air Force duties, he began his career in the carpet industry. Soon thereafter, he was wed to Emily Snider in 1963. He served in the carpet industry from 1962 until he retired in 2007 as Customer Service Manager at Beaulieu of America in Chatsworth. Joe was Boy Scout Troup Master for many years. He attended the LaFayette Church of God. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by wife of 59 years, Emily Snider Cauthen, son Joe Robert Cauthen, Jr. (Sonja), son Jeffery Allen Cauthen, Sr. all of LaFayette and daughter Stacey Cauthen Watts (Jason) of Birmingham, AL. Sister, Mary Surrett Gilreath of LaFayette, Virginia Surrett Lively of Culloden, Ga, and Carolyn Surrett Bradley (Billy) of Cedar Bluff, AL, Sisters-in-law, Carol Cauthen of Hyannis, MA, Jan Timmons (Larry) and Joann Green (Aaron), grandchildren; Tiffany Carmon, Tristan Cauthen, Jeffery Cauthen, Jr., Cassie Cauthen Keith, Hayley Cauthen, Addison Watts and Brody Watts, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Cecil Cauthen, his mother Martha Montgomery Surrett, father Allen Surrett, brothers Bill Cauthen and Michael Surrett.
Visitation will be held at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday from 12 p.m. until hour of service.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home with Reverend Josh Edwards officiating on Friday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m.
Burial will follow at LaFayette Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers are Tristan Cauthen, Jeffery Cauthen, Jr., Brody Watts, Larry Timmons, Aaron Green, and Jim Green.
