Freeman B. Atkins, 87, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022, at his residence with his son and his daughter by his side.

Freeman was the son of Booty Noble Atkins and Beulah Lee Atkins. Freeman was a member and deacon of Silverdale Baptist Church. Freeman was preceded in death by his father, mother, 10 brothers and sisters and his loving and faithful wife Lois who passed away in 2016.

Freeman is survived by his son Dr. F. Bobby (Marie), Atkins Jr. of Loganville, Georgia, his daughter Pamela Elaine (Ray) Mitchell of Ringgold, Georgia, five grandchildren Amy Harden, Kelley Lee, Adam Atkins, Justin Mitchell, and Jennifer Hill, and 10 great-grandchildren, Abbi, Anna, Jadon, Juel, Britton, Kensley, Katelyn, Eric, Levi and soon to be born Demetrius.

Freeman retired from the American Can Company, rising up from the entry level of his employment, and he was the supervisor in charge of quality control and invented numerous tools that benefited the company’s production and efficiency. Freeman had the innate ability to spot a problem, see the solution in his mind and create the tool or process that would make the situation better for everyone.

Freeman was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War era and will be laid to rest Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors with his son Dr. F. Bobby Atkins, Jr. officiating the celebration of life service.
