Longtime Director Of The Child Development Center At Red Bank Baptist Church

Ruth Billings Cooke, 99, passed away on June 28, 2022, at American House Assisted Living, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

She was a native of Tuscaloosa, Al., and moved to Red Bank in 1952.

Survivors include two sons, Danny (Brenda) of Ooltewah, and Randy of Sparta, Tn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Ruth joined Red Bank Baptist Church in 1952. She taught the ladies Sunday school class for more than 25 years. She also served as director of the Child Development Center from 1956 until retirement in 1990. A playground at the church was named in her honor for her years of service and dedication.

She served as a volunteer at Ronald McDonald Charities and Contact Ministries for many years.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. Fred Steelman presiding.

Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House, Red Bank Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Senior Helpers of Chattanooga, and Avalon Hospice for their care and kindness.
