Alan Thompson
Alan B. Thompson Sr., 75, of Chattanooga went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 30, 2022. Alan was born on November 12, 1946 in Deland, FL to John and Margaret Thompson. Alan was married to the love of his life, Roberta (Bobbie) Thompson for 52 years.
Alan graduated from Brainerd High School in 1964. After taking some Business Administration college classes. Alan enlisted in the Army from July 1967 to July 1968 and served in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. He was awarded for exceptionally meritorious service during that time. Alan’s other achievements include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Over Seas Bars, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksman (M-14).
Alan and Bobbie were married in Phoenixville, PA on August 23, 1969. They began their marriage by moving to Chattanooga, TN where Alan began working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He enjoyed sales work and retired as commercial sales manager with TruGreen Chemlawn.
Alan was a life member of the American Legion Post 95 where he helped organize Boys State and Girls State programs. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball and softball when his children were in elementary school. Alan’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, gardening, landscaping, watching Tennessee football and the Atlanta Braves. In addition, Alan had a deep love for his family and extended family members as he greatly enjoyed spending time with them. Alan was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for 26 years. During that time, he grew spiritually in the Lord as he delighted in reading his Bible and participating in many Bible studies.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Margaret Thompson, grandson, Kyler Evans, and sister, Phyllis (Bill) Nye.
Loved ones left to cherish his wonderful memories are his wife, Bobbie, son, Dr. Alan B. Thompson, Jr. (Erika) of Portland, OR, daughter, Jennifer Thompson Bondurant (Scot) of Murfreesboro, TN, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Loretta Klenk, grandchildren, Skylar and Juliana Thompson, Karsten, Kylie, and Braden Evans, and Zoie and Riley Bondurant, brother, John Thompson, Jr. (Bertha) of Chattanooga, TN, sister-in-law, Beverly Pellicciotti (Tom) of Swedesburg, PA, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, at Christ United Methodist Church with Pastors David Hall and Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be John Thompson III, Bill Nye Jr., David Thompson, Ken Nye, Karsten Evans, and Braden Evans.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Christ United Methodist Church.
