Joyce A. Pounders, 81, of Athens, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 at the home of her daughter.
She was a native of Bradley County and longtime resident of McMinn County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Emma Leamon. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Billy R. McClanahan (April 26, 1977) and her second husband, Charles L. Pounders (Dec. 7, 2012).
She was a member of Eastanallee Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery of the church for 20 plus years.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam McClanahan, of Athens; sons, Wade (Kay) McClanahan, of Cleveland and Chuck (Terrie) Pounders, of Memphis; two granddaughters, Megan (Michael) McKeehan, of Athens and Amanda Brown, of Cleveland; five grandsons, Billy McClanahan, Greyson Pounders, Chase Martin, Jakson Pounders and Lawson Brown; and two great-granddaughters, Winter McClanahan and Aubrey McKeehan.
A funeral service will be conducted, 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, with Mike Frazier officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 at Eastanallee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and Michael McKeehan. Honorary pallbearers will be Wade McClanahan, Chuck Pounders, Maynard Wilson and Ron Gann.
