  • Friday, August 5, 2022

Two new restaurants that are opening in Chattanooga were approved by the Chattanooga Beer Board for beer permits.

The Co-Op has opened at 1301 Dorchester Road, Unit 109. There are 28 of these stores around the Southeast, said Jason Soss, a co-owner. This is the first location in Chattanooga and in the next few weeks, two other stores will be opening in the Nashville area.

It is described as an “Island Café serving gourmet sandwiches, breakfast, coffee and Frose,” which is frozen rose’ wine. With the approval for its consumer beer license, the restaurant will be serving both wine and beer. There will be two brews made specifically for the Co-Op stores and one specifically for Tennessee.

Khaled Albanna will be opening Calliope Restaurant at 422 E. Martin Luther King Blvd. specializing in southeastern Mediterranean food, from a chef who comes from Amman Jordan. The atmosphere is described as both casual and upscale. Six types of beer will be sold as well as liquors.

A carry-out beer license was approved for Ashish Chaudhari, for convenience store Kanku’s #12. The location is 2413 4th Avenue, formerly a Mystic Food Mart. Jade, the company that owns the building, also operates Kanku’s stores on Market Street, Wilcox Boulevard and on MLK Boulevard.
