Velma Hinton
Velma Lee Turner Hinton, 84, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at a local hospital.
Velma was born on April 25, 1938, to Retha Turner (Howard) and Willie B. Turner, Sr.
Velma attended Howard High School and worked in private homes as a housekeeper. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hinton, Jr.; brother, Alvin Turner; sister, Rajeeyah “Lillie” Diaab; sons, Richard Hinton, III and Jeffery Hinton; daughter-in-law, Tawana Hinton.
Velma is survived by her brother, Willie B. Turner, Jr. (Faye) of Chattanooga; sister, Genevieve Turner of Toledo, Ohio; six children, Felecia Madden of Chattanooga, Darrell Hinton of Chattanooga, Cecily Ramsey (Luke) of Cleveland, Ohio, Kenneth Hinton of Chattanooga, Marcus (Nicole) Hinton of Chicago, Illinois, Deidra Baker of Memphis; devoted friend and special caregiver, Rosie of Chattanooga; special cousin, Phyllis McKnight; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.
Velma was loved by her family and will be missed dearly by all who know her. There was never a boring moment when anyone was around her.
Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the funeral home.
An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
