Edna Melton
Edna Marie Melton, 91, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday morning in a local hospital.
Ms. Melton was born in Cleveland and was the daughter of the late Rosa Anna Sowell Barrett and the late Rev. Isom C. Barrett. Her former husband, George C. Melton and a close cousin, Helen Ruth Johnson along with several extended family members also preceded her in death.
Edna was a 1949 graduate of Bradley High School. In her younger years she worked as a dispatcher for Volunteer Electric Cooperative. She was part-owner and bookkeeper of Dealers Auto Supply. For 17 years, she owned and operated The Woman’s Touch dress shop in Cleveland. Edna enjoyed sewing, cooking and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Most of all, she enjoyed being on Parksville Lake with her family. For many years she was member of North Cleveland Church of God where she was very active in the Geneva Circle. Edna was currently a member of the Westmore Church of God and had previously been a member of the Sanctuary Choir.
Survivors include her son, George Barry Melton (Brenda), Cleveland; granddaughter, Breanna Melton Liner (Zach), Chickamauga, Georgia, close cousin in law, Lorelle Hiers, Valdosta, Ga and numerous extended family members.
The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Friday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Pastor Kelvin Page, Pastor Wendell Smith and Dr. Henry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Greg Johnson, Seth Johnson, Tim Stauffer, Matt Stauffer, Jay Paschall, Randy Stripling, Kevin Ready and Allen Eldredge serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
