Constance “Connie” Billingsley, 68, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at her residence.

She was born an only child to the late Anna Ruth Billingsley and the late Warnie Shaw on January 1, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Connie attended Orchard Knob Elementary School and Orchard Knob Junior High School in her early years of life. Later, she attended Chattanooga (City) High School where she graduated with her beloved class of 1972. After high school, Connie went on to further her education by attending the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and taking remote classes from a Community College. She worked in the Hamilton County Department of Education as a Teacher’s Assistant, a Substitute Teacher, and also as a Daycare Assistant. In her many years of working in education, she not only served in Hamilton County, but her passion also took her to a position in the Walker County School System. Connie’s love for people moved her from education to caretaking, and finally to food services.

Outside of work, Connie remained a very devoted and vibrant class member, and she LOVED CLASS REUNIONS (whether they were her school’s class reunion or not). She was the life of the party, and she will be remembered for her infectious laughter. Connie was a cheerful giver and an avid reader, especially of the Word of God. She displayed her love for Jesus through showing love and kindness to everyone she met. She was a great supporter of the Kenneth Copeland Ministries and Hickory Valley Community Church. She also gave financial support to churches world-wide.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Charles and Loretta Collins.

Survivors include her aunt, Sandra (Archie Griffin Jr.) Griffin; cousins, Brenda Hughley, Alexander Moore, Jr., Sharon (Wiliam) Dean, Leslie Hawkins, Archie Griffin, III, all of Chattanooga; Tanacha (Carl) Bastian of Nashville, TN, Calvin Moore of Washington D.C., and Darwin (Sylvia) Smith of South Carolina; Godson, Marcel Augustt; very dear friends, Phyllis Maples, Jan Weaver, Patricia Moore, Freda Moore, and Margaret Weaver.

Connie will lie in state on Friday, Dec. 1, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Ron B. Cook, Sr. and Pastor Shelia Harris giving words of comfort.
