Alice Marie Carroll was born on August 2, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Alice was the daughter of the late Fred Lee Gray and Gladys Goree Simpson.

She was a member of Miracle Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful missionary worker, Deaconess, President of Nurses’ Guild, Open Door Ministry member, and answered the call to serve as needed in her church and throughout the community. She actively served in the Pilgrim Joy District Association and the Eastern Regional Women’s Association of the Tennessee Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention. Alice was a warrior for the Lord, sharing her faith with whomever she encountered.

Mrs. Carroll retired from the Health Center at Standifer Place. She attended Howard High School and graduated from Second District Night School in 1967. She was a former member of the ELKS Armistice Temple #364 and held many positions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Lee Gray and Gladys Goree Simpson; husband, Deed Randall Carroll; brothers, Timothy, Odell, Fred Lee Gray Jr., and Thomas Jerome Simpson; sisters, Annie Elizabeth Brown and Emma Long.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Cassandra Faye (James Otis Jr.) Woods; Charlene Moore, and Rosonia (Christopher) Burton; four grandchildren, Lorenzo Davis, James Otis Woods III, Rosonia A. Woods, and Randall A. Burton; two brothers, Rueben (Michelle) Simpson and Darryl Willingham Simpson; six sisters, Ellen Johnson, Yvonne Daniels, Linda Slayton Lindsey, Patricia Robinson (Samuel Coleman), Evelina Bush (Reginald Knight), and Louvina Smith (Roy Hinton); eleven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Extended family, Imogene Logan, Mizelle Calloway, Ronald Allen, and Dorothy Higgins. Best friend, Marjorie Davenport.

Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 4, at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 2625 North Chamberlain Avenue. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
