Boyd Buchanan kept things close to home when they hired a new head basketball coach. Former UTC assistant coach and Chattanooga native Kenneth White was introduced at a press conference Thursday afternoon at the Tom Jett gym. White played his college basketball as a point guard at North Carolina under Bill Guthridge and helped advance the Tar Heels to the 2000 NCAA Final Four. He played high school basketball at powerful Oak Hill Academy where he helped lead his team to a number two national ranking by USA Today.
"I'm honored to be selected as the new boys basketball coach at Boyd Buchanan," said White.
"I look forward to building on their success with an emphasis on character, excellence snd discipline. In addition, I'm excited to become fully integrated into the Buccaneer community and I look forward to building relationships with students, faculty and coaches."
White has spent time as an assistant coach in both high school and college basketball. He spent some time as an assistant coach at Campbell College helping lead the Camels to 89 wins and a Big South Championship. He also coached at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis where he took his team to the 2013 TSSAA sate Championship.
"Coach White's wealth of experience, understanding of the Chattanooga and the Independent School landscape , his principles of character development and Christian mentorship will be invaluable to the Boyd Buchanan community," said Bucs athletic director Matt Pobliego.
White's specialty is defensive scheming and guard development.
