The Boynton Lions Club of Ringgold honors Boynton Elementary graduates that exemplify the spirit and character of Catoosa County war hero Major Thomas Duckett with the Major Thomas Duckett Award.

Mr. Duckett was reported MIA, missing in action, during the Vietnam War when his fighter jet was shot down. Mr. Duckett graduated from Boynton Elementary and Ringgold High School.

Lions Club president Deborah Levin presented the 2023 Major Thomas Duckett Award, including $100, to Boynton graduates Athens Brown and Maddox Burroughs on behalf of the club and the North Georgia Electric Membership Roundup Grant.

The Club also honors a Boynton Elementary graduate that exhibits encouraging nature of service shared by late Lion David Carlock with the Lion David Carlock Award.

Mr. Carlock, a television journalist, Catoosa County magistrate judge and coroner, chose the principles of Lionism - fostering a spirit of understanding, promoting principles of good citizenship and taking an interest in the welfare of others - as benchmarks of his service.

Ms. Levin presented the 2023 Lion David Carlock Award, including $100, to Boynton graduate Mason Settlemire.

The Boynton Lions Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Boynton United Methodist Church.
