Owner Of Several Local Pharmacies Lived A Rich Life

Josef Harold Shalett, 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
 
Harold was preceded in death by his former wife, Doris Shalett; son, Edward Shalett; and parents, Edward and Bernice Shalett.

He is survived by his daughter, Sally Delashmitt; sister, Teddi Shalett Mendel; grandchildren, Christopher Delashmitt and Anna Delashmitt; great-grandchildren, Landon Hammonds, Amari Hammonds, and Imani Allen; nieces, Lauren (Justin) Orabona and Karen (Rich) Herbst; great niece and nephews, Emily Orabona, Richard Herbst, Robbie Herbst, and Will Herbst; and special friend, Kem Adams Renfro.

Harold will be forever missed as he was a devoted and loyal father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., and spent most of his life in Chattanooga.

He lived a rich life. His photographic memory gave him the role of family historian. His brilliant mind was honored by his induction into Mensa International. His musical talent with the clarinet and saxophone gave him opportunities to entertain at numerous venues, at times playing alongside his parents, Ed and Bernice Shalett. His clever wit was one of his greatest attributes.

He graduated from McCallie High School, Oglethorpe University, and Mercer University College of Pharmacy. Throughout the years, he owned several local pharmacies.

He served as chairman of the Chattanooga Chapter of Mensa, was a member of the Musicians Union, and a member of Mizpah Congregation. Harold was a true gentle man and was an important part of the lives of his family and friends.

Services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 3:30 p.m. at Mizpah Congregation with Rabbi Craig Lewis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Educational Society and the Mizpah Congregation Music Fund.
