Murl F. “Granny” Layne, of Middle Valley, Tennessee, 84, passed away on September 29, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was a graduate of Soddy Daisy High School. She retired from Dupont with over 30 years of service.

Murl was preceded in death by her husband, William R. “Sonny” Layne; her parents, Dewitt and Hattie Fairbanks; brother, John Fairbanks; and sisters, Mildred Irwin, Vivian Dunn and Catherine Fairbanks.

She is survived by her son, William H. “Bill” Layne (Lisa); her three grandchildren, Kristi Petty (Greg), Julie Dunn (Jamie), and B.J. Layne (Regan); her six great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Chloe, Dalis, Hunter, Harlee Kate and Hattie; sisters, Tommie Curtis and Diann Waldron (Charlie); brother, Glenn Fairbanks (Lisa); sister-in-law, Jinnie Henry; and many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.

The family would like to express a heart felt “Thank You” to Hearth Hospice for the care and assistance provided during her illness.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 4-8 p.m., at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home in Soddy Daisy. Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, with Ronnie Namanny officiating. The burial will immediately follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
