Friday of last week, East Tennessee was devastated in many areas and communities. Lives have been lost, and the true toll of the devastation is still being estimated as search and rescue operations take place. From Eastern Tennessee to Western North Carolina the physical damage which those have experienced will take decades to repair. Entire communities washed away without a moment's notice.
These communities and fellow Americans need more than just water, blankets, food and fuel. These communities were built on beautiful stops available to travelers making their way through the Eastern Woodlands. Built on a foundation of tourism. One of the best ways to support overcoming the devastation is to push revenues into the local businesses which made each community unique. Most of us have traveled through one, if not all of the areas affected. I challenge you to find a small business you have been to in the area and buy a gift card online, buy a T-shirt or locally made product.
See here is the thing. Many of these small communities depend on tourism revenue during season when our state is beautiful, and people travel from all corners to see the colors of fall. When travels do not travel to our state, their dollar not spent in our state. People in these communities have not only lost their homes, their town squares, and their way of life, they have lost the revenues which are counted on year after year to keep these niche communities in business.
What East Tennessee needs now is our economic might through our philanthropic hearts. Posting online is not enough. Support, Pray, and Spend in East Tennessee. We are not able to count on the federal government to make those who have lost everything whole. I rely on the Volunteer State.
