Welcome Home of Chattanooga will offer an all-day conference called “Demystifying Death” on Friday, Nov. 1 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
The conference will offer the community, including professionals and students, an opportunity to learn about the basics of end-of-life care. Interested applicants can register online at welcomehomeofchattanooga.org.
Welcome Home of Chattanooga has served more than 130 individuals as a 501(c)(3) non-profit since March of 2015, with the staff providing 24/7 family-style care in partnership with local hospices offering professional medical care and support.
Welcome Home of Chattanooga Executive Director Sherry Campbell says an important part of their mission is their education program.
“Demystifying Death” provides opportunities for individuals and groups to learn and talk about death, dying and grief. We understand that these experiences help people feel more comfortable with the topic when faced with it themselves, and bringing people together in fellowship for these events helps us realize that we are not alone,” she said.
This year’s course will feature breakout sessions covering topics such as Legal Issues & Death, End of Life Wishes, End of Life Care & Ethics, a Death Café, Home Funerals and Alternatives to Traditional Burials, Solo Aging, Creative Rituals and Stories, Mind-Mapping Your Death: Planning your End of Life Journey, and Singing for Life and Death.
The keynote speaker at the fall conference is Kim Bateman, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, storyteller, death educator and end-of-life doula who is the author of “Crossing the Owl’s Bridge: A Guide for Grieving People Who Still Love”.
