Jerome “Jerry” Kern Curington passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Jerome was born in South Pittsburgh, Tn. on Dec. 8, 1945, to the late Reverend George W. and Addie Belle Curington. Jerome was the youngest son of their 15 children.

Along with his beloved parents, Rev. George W. and Addie Curington, Jerome was preceded in death by his eight brothers, Charles, Lewis, William, John Wallace, Frank, George, Jr., Nathaniel, Frederick, and Thomas; his sisters, Rachael, Mary Jo, Laura Lee, Maureen, and baby Gladys, who would have been the youngest sibling, died at one year and one day old in 1946.

Jerome attended McReynolds Elementary and High school in South Pittsburgh, graduating in 1964.

In 1966, Jerome joined the United States Army and served his country from that time until 1975, when he was honorably discharged. Jerome received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Good Conduct Medal Clasp, The Bronze Medal, and two Loops Marksman Rifle Medals.

After serving in the United States Army, Jerome was self-employed. He started his own expediting company, carrying mail and cargo to the airports and local businesses in the New York metro area.

Jerome moved back to Chattanooga, in the late 1990s. He became a faithful member of St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church.

Jerome is survived by two sons, Mr. Pernell Adrian Curington, Atlanta, Mr. Jerome Kern Walton, Brooklyn, NY; seven grandchildren; one stepson; one sister, Addie Belle Horton (Gus), Chattanooga; two dearest friends, Margie Favors and Patrice Johnson; nephew, David Paul Curington, who was like a brother; host of other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, and the funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. at St. Elmo MB Church, 3701 West Ave.

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Gate time is at 1:30 p.m.
