Hamilton County Schools announce a Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) growth score of Level 3 for the 2023-2024 school year.
Officials said, "This achievement highlights that HCS students maintained growth levels comparable to their peers across Tennessee, demonstrating steady progress and alignment with state standards for student growth."
"This steady growth reflects the hard work of our teachers, the dedication of our students, and the support of our entire Hamilton County Schools community," said Dr. Justin Robertson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools. "Our growth data, paired with our achievement results, help us understand the learning happening in our schools. Through evaluation of both data sets, we are committed to continuous improvement and ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed."
TVAAS measures student growth year over year, using data that provides insights into how schools and districts are progressing academically.
Officials said, "A Level 3 score confirms that students across Hamilton County are meeting expected growth. This year’s results reflect the district’s commitment to consistent, data-driven instruction and the resilience of its students, educators, and support staff."
“Our commitment to student growth is rooted in a balance of academic press and personalized learning,” said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Sonia Stewart. “By setting high expectations and layering in essential supports, we ensure that each and every student can succeed. Our TVAAS results reflect our areas of strength and opportunities to improve student outcomes. We will continue to provide rigorous instruction paired with a culture of care, so all students can achieve meaningful growth.”
Officials also said, "While HCS is proud to maintain a Level 3 growth score, reflecting consistent progress in line with statewide expectations, the district’s commitment remains focused on accelerating student growth to surpass these benchmarks. This year, the district’s Level 5 scores in Literacy and Career and Technical Education (CTE) highlight the effectiveness of targeted focus in these areas. These results validate the emphasis on literacy as a foundation for academic success and on CTE programs that prepare students for future careers. HCS will continue striving for excellence, working to see students grow faster than their peers across Tennessee.
"Additionally, HCS proudly celebrates 27 schools that earned distinction as TVAAS Level 4 or 5. This accomplishment highlights these schools’ exceptional progress and dedication in fostering accelerated student learning. Level 4 and 5 designations reflect students showing significant evidence of faster growth than their state peers. This achievement is a testament to the effectiveness of those schools’ instructional strategies and the hard work of both educators and students.
"In combination with the earlier release of TCAP testing data for the 2023-2024 school year, TVAAS reinforces that students in Hamilton County Schools are achieving gains and maintaining those gains while growing in alignment with their peers across the state."
