Jim Sasse
Jim Sasse went home to be with the Lord on October 30, 2024 after a brief illness.
He was born to Jim and Carolyn Sasse and lived his life on Signal Mountain – playing baseball and being on the swim team. He created continual mischief with his brothers Carl and Steve and attempted to keep his sister, Sharon, and friend Jane Fraizer, in line.
Jim attended City High School and then went on to Ringling School of Art, Memphis School of Art and obtained his master's degree at UGA. He and the love of his life, Susan Dragoo, commuted from Athens to Rome (Berry College) until they married in 1979. He and Susan joined the Peace Corps in 1983 and were sent to Tunisia, where they became ardent supporters of Israel. They traveled to Israel 3 times and also traveled to Europe with their Peace Corps friends, Aiden and Brigette. Upon returning to the USA, Jim pursued another master's in Anthropology and Archeology at UTK. While in Knoxville they met friends at church who had a son adopted from Korea and instantly knew they wanted to do the same thing. John came from Korea in 1986 and Elizabeth (Liz) came from Vietnam in 1992. The joy of Jim’s life was his family, and he loved and admired his children to no bounds. He always enjoyed painting portraits and drawing, along with collecting antique pistols. He loved working at Blade Magazine where he could be the first to study the knives they were profiling. He lived his last days surrounded by his family and took great effort to tell each one that he loved them and that he loved Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, son, John (Hayden Price), daughter Elizabeth, and two precious grandchildren, Sage and Poppy. His very loved siblings are Sharon Sasse of NYC and Carl Sasse of St. Louis.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church in honor of Jim. Jim’s memorial service will be held at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Nov. 21. Family visitation will be at 1 p.m. and the service at 2 p.m.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
