Eleanor Ruth Green, 94, of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at her residence.

A native of Chattanooga, Tn., Dr. Green valued creativity, independence, and athleticism which led her to a doctorate and career in the field of dance. An educator at Georgia Southern and beyond, she never stopped learning and found fulfillment in genealogical research of her Green and Hamby families. She was a colorful figure in her community and family and made it her mission to promote accountability and transparency at all levels of government.

Ruth Green was a member of the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame for her basketball career at Red Bank High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess L. and Donnie Hamby Green; sisters, Marie McMillan and Barbara Braly; and brother, Jess Green, Jr. Aunt Ruthie will be remembered fondly by three generations of nieces and nephews who survive her throughout the southeast.

At her request, there will be no service; however, memorial contributions may be made to the National Wildlife Federation.
