Matthew Bronson
Southern Adventist University invites the public to hear Matthew Bronson, assistant professor at the university, present “The Heartland of Judah: Excavations at Biblical Libnah” on Monday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Lynn Wood Hall Chapel on campus in Collegedale.
Officials said, "Mr. Bronson’s presentation includes material from recent excavations at the site of Tel Burna, situated in the Judean lowlands (Shephelah). The 15-year excavation project, which began in 2009, has uncovered rich finds from the Late Bronze and Iron Ages, revealing a thriving city fortified for much of its history.
When all the evidence is considered, there are compelling reasons to believe that Tel Burna is the biblical site of Libnah."
Mr. Bronson joined Southern’s teaching faculty at the beginning of this year. An alum who is originally from California, he pursued archaeology and biblical studies on the Collegedale campus as well as biblical studies at Liberty University in Virginia. He also participated in the 2014 field season at Lachish, Israel as a volunteer and square supervisor, as well as at nearby Tel Burna as a volunteer in 2022, and an assistant area supervisor in 2023. Mr. Bronson is currently working towards his doctorate in archaeology at Nashville’s Lipscomb University in Tennessee.
This free Lynn H. Wood Archaeological Museum lecture is open to the public. Visit southern.edu/southernevents for additional information.
