Walter Bruce Cox, Jr., age 77, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, passed away on November 3, 2024, at a local hospital, surrounded by his family.

Bruce was born on Oct. 4, 1947, in Memphis, Tn., to the late Walter Bruce Cox, Sr. and Vinnie Maude Cox. Bruce was a 1965 graduate of Red Bank High School and a member of Dallas Bay Church. Mr. Cox was a United States Navy Seabees veteran and worked for nearly 40 years as a systems analyst for various companies, eventually retiring from Hamilton County government. Bruce especially loved spending time with his beloved wife and grandchildren, watching sports, as well as studying local history and family genealogy.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Goins Cox; children Christy (David) Thurman and Mark Cox; grandchildren Austin Cody Thurman, Andrew Thurman, Dillan Cox, and Gavin Cox; and one sister Nancy (Larry) Pyatt.

The family will receive visitors from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home. Graveside service will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at National Cemetery with Terry Shannon officiating.
