Henry M. Butler
Henry M. Butler went to be with his Lord on November 29, 2024.
He was the son of Benjamin and Margaret Butler, and the brother of Mary Lou Wilkins, Harold Butler, and Nell Jo King.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Addie Elizabeth Butler.
Henry is survived by his son, David Butler of Franklin, Tn.; daughter, Nylea Butler-Moore and her husband Kyle of Los Alamos, N.M.; granddaughter, Haley Butler-Moore of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Nell Jo King of Fort Payne, Al.; and several nieces, nephews, and their children.
Henry was born in northeastern Alabama on Jan. 11, 1930, the third of four children. As a high school student, he excelled in a variety of sports, including football, basketball, and baseball. Henry began work at DuPont in Chattanooga upon graduation. Not long after, he received his draft notice from the Army and served as communications specialist during the Korean War. He returned to his job at DuPont and was employed there for 40½ years.
Henry coached t-ball and little league baseball when his son was young. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, basketball, and especially Alabama football. An active member of Ridgedale Baptist Church since 1957, Henry served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Royal Ambassadors leader, member of the men’s Brotherhood, an usher, and deacon emeritus. He was also part of the Friendship Bible Class and assistant leader of the Homebound Ministry.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 12-1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Ridgedale Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with interment at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ridgedale Baptist Church, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
