The American Heart Association announced that Bennett Smith has been named as Chattanooga’s new executive director.

In this role, Mr. Smith will oversee development and community health in Greater Chattanooga and North/Central Georgia communities. He will lead local market priorities for the Association as it works to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease, the leading killer of Americans, by focusing on community impact work, advocacy and research funding.

“Bennett has demonstrated consistent, year-over-year growth in the market, which he credits to exceptional volunteer leaders who are motivated to identify transformational opportunities for revenue generation and health impact. His passion and commitment to fostering equitable health outcomes in our communities are truly inspiring, and I am thrilled to see him take on this new role with an expanded scope,” said Chris Hopkins, board chair, Chattanooga, American Heart Association.

Mr. Smith began his career in the for-profit sector as a senior sales representative at Coyote Logistics in Chattanooga, where he led sales and operations for teams across the U.S. and Mexico. Since joining the association in 2021, Mr. Smith has held several positions and worked across multiple campaigns, most recently as a senior director.

"I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue advancing the mission of the American Heart Association in Greater Chattanooga and North/Central Georgia Communities,“ said Mr. Smith. "This mission is personal to me, and I am committed to working with our incredible supporters to drive transformational change and champion health equity in our community."

A graduate from Auburn University, he received his degree in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. He is currently pursuing his master’s in business administration from The Jack Welch Management Institute.
