Lee University’s Symphonic Band will present its spring concert on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall, under the direction of Dr. Mark Bailey.

The program will feature concert band selections such as “Second Suite in F” by Gustav Holst, “Encanto” by Robert W Smith, “Fantasy on a Spanish Hymn” by Steve Dunn, “With Quiet Courage” by Larry Daehn, and “Highlights from Beauty and the Beast” by John Moss, along with several others.

The ensemble will also present contemporary arrangements of selections being performed during the group’s upcoming spring break tour to Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia, as well as its upcoming Missions Trip to Europe in May.

The Lee Symphonic Band has developed a reputation as an outstanding performance ensemble that combines superior musicianship with a true sensitivity to the use of music as a vehicle to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“The Symphonic Band is characterized by its breadth of diverse performance styles done with a desire to play with excellence unto the Lord,” said Dr. Bailey.

The 2024 Symphonic Band is made up of 48 musicians divided into winds, percussion, rhythm, and added string section and vocal ensemble.

Dr. Bailey currently serves in the School of Music as a professor of music. He has advanced training with the nation’s best wind conductors, including Eugene Corporon, North Texas University, Myron Welch, and the University of Iowa.
