  • Sunday, February 4, 2024

Cindy Sue Wilson (nee Smith), 68, of Thomasville, AL, passed away on February 3, 2024, in Chattanooga, TN. She was born on May 13, 1955.

Cindy was a loving mother, sister, and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Nina Wilson Cahill (Chris Cahill); her sisters, Renee Smith Jackson and Debra Smith Medine; and her brother, Casey Smith.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Smith, her mother, Jeanette Knight Smith, and her father, Arvin Smith.

Cindy had a distinguished military career as a registered nurse, serving as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army for 29 years. Her dedication and commitment to her country were unparalleled.

During Cindy's military and civilian nursing career, she served as an emergency room nurse supervisor in Bremerhaven Germany for three years, worked at Vanderbilt Hospital in the operating room, at the Nissan plant, and with Hamilton County Public Schools, all as a registered nurse. Her expertise and compassion touched the lives of many patients throughout her career.

Cindy was a member of the Hamilton Community Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith. She truly enjoyed her weekly Bible study with her life group. Her devotion to her religion was an important part of her life.

In her free time, Cindy enjoyed looking at and buying pretty plants, and had a special love for birds. She would spend hours talking to them and feeding them. She also had a deep affection for animals, especially cats and dogs. Cindy was a beloved babysitter for sweet Sadie and cherished every moment spent with her. She was a steadfast Alabama fan and you could always hear her sharing "Roll Tide" with many - even strangers. She loved going out to eat, socializing with friends and family, and loved to share the story of Jesus with anyone who would listen. However, her favorite pastime was spending quality time with her daughter, Nina.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Heritage Funeral Home - East Brainerd in Chattanooga, TN. Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Cindy's life at a memorial service held at a later date. Loved ones are invited to pay their respects and share their memories.

Cindy Sue Wilson will be remembered as a strong and compassionate woman who dedicated her life to serving others. Her legacy of kindness and love will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
