The selectivity and priority of street and sidewalk projects to be repaired or repaved has always been a hot topic of discussion by taxpaying Chattanoogans.

Earlier this year was revealed an interesting contrast in conditions. In the last two blocks of East 10th Street in an eastern direction past Park and Fairview Streets before Central Avenue a large independent contractor work crew began digging up the sidewalk and laying fresh concrete. At the same time the pathway of travel by a few thousand vehicles and hundreds of daily bicycle riders and skateboarders are under danger of the “pothole perils” that have not yet been repaired under what will probably be the most important campaign issue in the expected all-out fight for the top spot in the Scenic City, Dynamo of Dixie, or Gig City (or a new name).

A thorough background check is underway to determine whether the selection of the project is of necessity, favoritism, or as one old time politicians has best explained a possible answer to the question- “It’s the Chattanooga way!”

PS: Due to his advancing age “Choo Choo Chuck” has recruited the grandson of the infamous local radio critic of yore “Chickamauga Charlie” who has also agreed to submit an occasional column under the cloak of anonymity that might suggest a more balanced approach to solving the problems facing the 385,000 citizens of Hamilton County than the “rose colored glasses” perspective of the politicos and millionaires/billionaires and community horn tooters. His pseudonym is “Choo Choo Charlie”.
