Barbara Jean Sheppard
Barbara Jean Sheppard, 88, departed this life on April 1, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
She was born on March 13, 1936, in Chattanooga, to the late Lillie M Price.
Barbara was a graduate of Howard High School.
She was a faithful member of United Tabernacle Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Dr. Ronnie Z. Powe, Sr., where she served as president of the Usher Ministry and Bible Band.
She married Odell Sheppard from Gadsden, Al., and they had five children. Barbara was a longtime resident of the Shepherd community.
Barbara retired from CHI Memorial Hospital after 39 years of service.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Price; sons, Mike Sheppard and Walter Sheppard.
She leaves precious memories that will be cherished by her children, Iris Powe, Ricky Sheppard, and Verdale Sheppard; two sisters, Maxine Wilson of Chattanooga and Ann Holmes of Pasadena, CA; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Special friends, Pearlie Draper, Pearl Russell, Willie Deramus, and Martha Draper.
Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, April 19, at the funeral home.
A noon funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20, at United Tabernacle COGIC, 2418 Dodson Ave.
Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
