Howard Alvin Thomas, Jr.
Howard Alvin Thomas, Jr., 80, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home.
He was born on Oct. 8, 1943, in Cairo, Il., to the late Howard Alvin Thomas, Sr. and Helen Schuch Thomas. Howard graduated from Cairo High School Class of 1961 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Bethel University in 1968. Mr. Thomas retired from the State of Georgia after more than 30 years as an epidemiologist. He enjoyed playing golf, watching the Atlanta Braves and college basketball. Howard was a member of Elizabeth Lee Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Maynor and brother, Carl “Johnny” Thomas.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Glenda Thomas; daughters, Luanne Kilgo (Chris), of Harrison, Vanessa Myers (Andrew), of Dahlonega, Ga., Rebekah Bailey (Jerron), of Calhoun, Ga.; son, Larry Maynor (Ginger), of Birmingham; sister, Barbara Thomas; sister-in-law, Donna Thomas; grandchildren, Cole and Davis Kilgo, Rae Lynn and Shelby Myers, Lyla Bailey, Luke Maynor and Becca Maynor; great-granddaughter, Aliyah Ware; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Zach Fitzpatrick officiating. Entombment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
