NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector At Sequoyah Nuclear Plant

  • Tuesday, July 2, 2024

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Pete Meier as its new senior resident inspector at Sequoyah nuclear power plant near Soddy- Daisy, Tennessee. He joins NRC Resident Inspector Alex Price at the site, operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Meier joined the NRC in 2015 as a project engineer in the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa. Before accepting the Sequoyah position, he was the agency’s senior resident inspector at the Farley nuclear plant in Dothan, Al., and the resident inspector at the Seabrook nuclear plant in New Hampshire.

Before joining the NRC, Meier was an NRC-licensed senior reactor operator and system engineer at the Turkey Point nuclear plant in Homestead, Fl. He also held various engineering positions with Maersk Lines, Red River Shipping, and Drew Marine Chemical. Meier earned a bachelor's degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and later earned a U.S. Coast Guard chief engineer's license, unlimited horsepower, the highest license in marine engineering.

“Pete brings a wealth of experience and technical expertise to the Sequoyah team,” said NRC Region II Administrator Laura Dudes. “His background in engineering, coupled with his extensive experience as a senior reactor operator and inspector, makes him well-suited to lead our team of inspectors at Sequoyah.”

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
