Wayne Townsend, 82, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his residence.
Wayne was born on Feb. 22, 1942, in Cherokee County, Ga., a son of the late Clearance Otis “Ode” and Wyolene Holder Townsend. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Annette Townsend, and a sister, Lavern Townsend.
Wayne proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked many years and retired from General Motors Doraville Plant. He then owned and operated Townsend Wrecker Service, Townsend Auto Garage and Repair. He also owned Townsend Antiques. Wayne was a fifty plus member of the Waleska Masonic Lodge #57 and was a member of Salacoa (Greeley) Baptist Church.
Wayne was smart, strong willed, funny, very kind, very passionate about his believed. His life was one of hard work and caring for others.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Edwards of Lafayette,; grandchildren, Rebecca and Mike Jones, twins, Danielle Hardy, and Brittany and Karter McHan, Scott Burdette; great-grandchildren, Lucas Bonds, Claire Bonds, Alyssa England, and Kash McHan; brother, Randall Townsend of Fairmount, Ga.; sisters, his twin, Elaine and Burney Ivey of Bethlehem, Ga., Arlene Kittle of Ranger, Ga., Patsy and Eddie Bryant of Fairmount, Ga.; special nephew and caregiver, Jonathan Woodward of Calhoun, Ga.; several other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Wayne Townsend will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Salacoa (Greeley) Baptist Church, in Cherokee County, Georgia, with Reverend Reggie Temples officiating.
He will be laid to rest beside his daughter in the church cemetery with, Bailey Townsend, Kirk Townsend, Jason Ivey, Dane Kittle, Austin Kittle and Eric Moss honored to serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Woodward, Luke Swanson, Michael Johnson and Melinda Croft. Masonic Graveside services will be provided by Waleska Masonic Lodge #57. Military Graveside honors will be provided by Dalton Masonic Lodge #112.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Fairmount Chapel, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and after 10:00 a.m. Sunday until the service hour.
