Tom W. Gray
Tom W. Gray, 86, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on January 17, 2025.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1939, in Chattanooga, to the late John and Evelyn Gray. After graduating from Central High School in 1956, Tom went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in 1960. Over the years, he worked in the agriculture industry before transitioning into a successful career as a Certified Financial Planner and investment advisor.
Throughout his life, Tom was passionate about many things. He loved live music, traveling, and exploring the great outdoors. His adventures, often shared with his close friends, the Picketts, took him to nearly every state in the country. In earlier years, Tom spent many hours rebuilding cars as a hobby. Later in life, he found joy in staying active at the Sports Barn in Hixson, where he formed lasting friendships. He also enjoyed attending music festivals with his close friends Tom and Carol Debusk.
Known for his great sense of humor and positive attitude, Tom was a strong believer in the power of self-affirmation, often saying, “I am a great big ball of fire.” He cherished time spent with friends and family, and his legacy of optimism, perseverance, hard work, and laughter will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Virginia Jo Hughes Gray.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Julie Gray Light (Scott); son, Rusty Gray (Beth); grandchildren, Spencer and Grayson Light, and Jack, Parker, and Emma Gray. He is also survived by a host of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 2-4 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike.
