Paul Nelson, PhD
Southern Adventist University welcomes Paul Nelson, PhD, a biology philosopher involved in the intelligent design debate internationally for three decades, to speak for the annual Origins Convocation on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. in Collegedale Church of Seventh-day Adventists on campus.
Dr. Nelson organized the Mere Creation Conference in 1996, forming the first modern intelligent design research community. His interests include the relationship between developmental biology and knowledge of the history of life, the theory of intelligent design and the interaction of science and theology.
Currently a senior fellow of the Discovery Institute at Biola University in California, he is also an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Arts program in Science and Religion. Dr. Nelson lectures frequently at colleges and universities throughout the United States and globally, speaks on American and Italian national public radio and writes for popular publications ranging from Oslo Dagbladet to Christian Research Journal. His scholarly articles have appeared in journals including Biology & Philosophy, BIO-Complexity, Zygon, Rhetoric and Public Affairs, and Touchstone. He holds memberships in the Society for Developmental Biology and the International Society for Computational Biology.
