Harold Gunnels, 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a 1959 graduate of Central High School. Harold served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era operating heavy equipment as a combat engineer and participated in the recall for the East and West Berlin crisis. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, NASCAR racing, and gardening. Harold was a true family man who cherished spending time with his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Kathleen Gunnels, and great-grandchildren, Jayda Harvey and Devin Thurman.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Glenda Gunnels; loving sons, Mark Gunnels (Kassie) and Michael Gunnels (Linda); loving daughter, Connie King (David); grandchildren, Kaislyn, Jamie, Stephanie, Adam, Nicholas and Justin; great-grandchildren, Chase, Jasmine, Stevie, Piper, Dean, Andie, Grace, Logan and Vada; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Caden, Stacy, Jerry, Sonya, Andy and Kennye, as well as sister-in-law, Marlene Goggins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m.–12:15 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. with David King officiating.

Harold will be laid to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
