For nearly a decade Cleveland has been the team to beat on the state tournament wrestling mat. Saturday was no different as the Blue Raiders captured their eighth consecutive state duals title with a dominating 49-18 win over Summit.
The win over over the Spartans was not without a Cleveland connection as former Blue Raiders wrestler Pete Miller serves as head wrangler for Summit.
On the girls side, the Josh Bosken trained Lady Raiders kept up their end of the dynasty wrestling to their third straight state championship.
The Spartans held the early advantage with three consecutive technical fall wins to lead 15-0.
From there it was all Cleveland as Cy Fowler opened a string of 10 straight Blue Raiders wins with a pin at 175 pounds.
The Spartans picked up just one other victory with a decision at 144.
Chase Walker earned a pin at 120 for the Raiders followed by Fowler. Gabe Moore earned six points for the chamipions with a pin at 215.
Cleveland wrestled to five tech falls over the Spartans on their way to the title. Rock Shurette contributed to the final total with a 7-0 decision at 190.
Ace Chittum (106), Jose Cordero (113), Colt Maughon (120), Zac Bosken (132) and Tyson Russell (285) all earned tech fall victories.
