  • Friday, March 14, 2025

After taking game one on Thursday, the Covenant baseball team had plans to take the series against Huntingdon. However, behind strong pitching and timely hitting, the Hawks had other ideas, sweeping today's doubleheader to earn the series win.

Game 1 Final: Covenant 2, Huntingdon 5 Covenant had two runners on base in the first and second innings, but could not bring home anyone to open the scoring. Sam Cecil put Covenant up 1-0 in the third inning as he led off the inning with a solo home run to right field.

Huntingdon scored two runs in the fourth inning using three hits and an infield error to do so.
A sacrifice fly with a throwing error later in the play scored two more runs for Huntingdon in the fifth inning.

Later in the frame, an RBI groundout to second base made it 5-1, Hawks.
In the sixth inning, Daniel Bell drove in a run for Covenant with an RBI sacrifice fly to right field.

Covenant once again had two runners on in the seventh and ninth innings, but were not able to find the timely hit.

In the ninth, the game ended on a 1-4-3 double play.

RHP Jonathan Glover (5.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 2 HBP) took the loss for Covenant on the mound after allowing just one earned run. RHP Ethan Goebert (3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) pitched in relief of Glover and kept Covenant in the game. Cecil (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Elliott Eastin (2-for-3, 1 BB) each had two hits for the Scots.

Both teams had seven hits. Covenant had four errors while Huntingdon had one.

Game 2 Final: Covenant 2, Huntingdon 5 RHP Scotty Smith for Covenant and RHP J.B. Landrum for Huntingdon both were dealing, keeping the score 0-0 through the first four innings. A leadoff triple in the fifth inning led to the first run of the game, scored by the Hawks.

William Blosser tied the game in the seventh inning, scoring Roby McClarnon from second base with an RBI single through the left side. Landrum struck out the next batter to avoid allowing Covenant to take the lead.

In the eighth inning, Huntingdon took the lead with an RBI single with the bases loaded after playing some small ball to get runners on. Later in the frame, a 2-RBI single to right-center field and an RBI single up the middle put the Hawks up 5-1.

The Scots put the first two batters on base in the eighth, but only one would score as Bell drove in Cole Akins on an RBI sacrifice fly to left field. Covenant brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, however a foul out and a strikeout secured the win for Huntingdon.
