The Covenant College men's tennis team welcomed a nationally ranked opponent in No. 23 Sewanee to campus for an opportunity to pick up a statement win. However, the Tigers brought a strong game, earning the win on Friday night.
Final: Covenant Men 1, No. 23 Sewanee 6 In doubes, Ben Onufrock and Caleb Domkowski lost 3-6 in the No. 1 slot to Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund. Brock Boehling and Graham Hayes had the same fate in the No. 2 position, falling 3-6 to Andre Jakobi and Gil Weston. In the No. 3 ranked match, Gill Dunn and Jackson Orsega were blanked 0-6 to Drew Rukavina and Maxim Verellen.
Onufrock suffered another defeat to Theron, falling 3-6, 2-6 in the No. 1 position.
Domkowski secured Covenant's lone win in the No. 2 slot, defeating Jakobi 6-4, 6-4.
In the No. 3 ranked match, Boehling was bested 4-6, 3-6 to Weston.
Hayes manned the No. 4 position, falling 3-6, 0-6 to Liam Selvido.
In the No. 5 ranked match, Dunn took a 2-6, 3-6 loss to Charles Pizzuti.
Gavin Patton was Covenant's player in the No. 6 slot as he was defeated 2-6, 3-6 by George Alexander.
Covenant is at LaGrange tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. for a conference match
In the women's match, No. 19 Sewanee blanked Covenant 7-0.

In doubles, The Scots fell 0-6 in all three doubles matches against the Tigers.
Lauren Carr and Zoe Giuntoli manned the No. 1 position, Katie Cummings and Christina English paired up in the No. 2 position, Estee Verdery and Caroline Tisdale competed in the No. 3 position.
Carr took on Ansley Carpenter in the No. 1 slot where she fell 1-6, 2-6.
In the No. 2 ranked match, Verdery fell 1-6, 1-6 to Sarah Livingston.
Giuntoli suffered an 0-6, 0-6 loss to Mariella Congeni in the No. 3 position.
Cummings also fell 0-6, 0-6, competing in the No. 4 slot against Ivy Wilson.
In the No. 5 ranked match, English took on Harper High and lost 1-6, 0-6.
Ora Hall took a loss in the No. 6 slot 0-6, 1-6 to Lexi Barbee.
Covenant travels to LaGrange tomorrow for a conference match beginning at 11 a.m.
