Beryl Myles Lawrence, Sr., 84, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

He was the son of the late Frank K. Lawrence and Lela M. Wendt and was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis E. Lawrence, two daughters, Sally Potter, Vicki Longtin, son, Mike Lawrence, sister, Sharon Lyle and brother, Bryan Lawrence.

Beryl grew up in Genoa, Il. He loved playing basketball and was a member of the state championship team while in high school. He worked for Coca Cola and Pepsi prior to working as a prison guard in Arizona and at the Silverdale Detention Center in Chattanooga. Beryl and his wife Phyllis served as missionaries to both the Native American people and the visually impaired. Beryl also served as a lay minister for many years and throughout several congregations.

He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was recently attending Heritage Baptist Church.

He is survived by seven children, Diane (Paul) Peddle, of Ooltewah, Pamela (Martin) Pentland, of Woodland Hills, Ca., Sigurd “Butch” (Rhonda) Ness, of Magnolia, Tx., Beryl Lawrence, II, of Smithfield, Va., Bradley (Wendy) Lawrence, of Pearl City, Il., Paul (Sandra) Lawrence, of Ringgold, Rachel Lawrence, of Elizabethtown, Ky., 35 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Diane Lawrence, Jane Hamilton, two brothers, Frank Lawrence, Danny Lawrence and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at Heritage Baptist Church, 2934 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421, with Pastor Chris Creswell officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens – East.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at the church.
