The Boyd Buchannan Buccaneers boys’ soccer team won a goal-fest against the Silverdale Academy Seahawks. Not only was it a big win for the Bucs with a 7-0 score, but it was their last home game of the season and senior night for eight players. What a win it was for the Bucs, specifically for Drew Pollard and Fiston Mugisha, who had been impact players both last night and all season long. Drew Pollard opened up about the game and his relationship with his team.

“It means a lot to us. We have struggled to get the ball in the back of the net this year and pushing through this game, we fought for it. we finally found our rhythm as a team and we started scoring goals like we needed to. Its feeling great now. This group of seniors has been together for four straight years of state championships and we are ready to go back again this year. This family just keeps growing as the season goes on. We are just so happy to be together and we are ready to fight for it all.”

The match kicked off and Boyd struggled to find goal for the first twenty-six minutes. They kept control of the game, but the first goal would not be score until Mugisha would take command of the field. Mugisha had plenty of skill and put on a showcase against Silverdale. He broke past the defense many times to attribute to almost every single goal. Pollard would score the second goal of the half. He took a shot from distance and put it in the top corner. The keeper got a hand on it but it was of no use.

After halftime, Boyd Buchanan had found a rhythm and just could not stop scoring. A total of five goals would be scored before the final whistle. The first of those from Taylor Wood after Mugisha set him up nicely in front of goal. Then another goal quickly followed Pollard again. This time Mugisha would get his second assist from a deep cross. Pollard made a perfect run in behind the defense and headed the ball past the keeper. Reid Staples would get his first goal after winning the rebound. Then Wood scored the last two to complete a beautiful hattrick on the night. silver dale would go on to win 7-0. Fiston Mugisha spoke after the win. Here is what he had to say:

“Last week we lost to Notre Dame and it was hard on us,” said Mugisha. “We could feel our chances and our opportunities today. We executed our plan very well. Coached wanted us to find each other, stop being selfish and help one another. When one scores, the team scores. That’s what we are all about really. Winning state last year is motivation for us right now. That’s our goal. We are trying to go back-to-back. We are staying calm and collected. We aren’t pressured by the wins. We are just going through the motions. God helped us last year and He can help us this year as well. The seniors are amazing. Playing with these guys is the motivation.it is fun and it is just like a family. It is like one big family for sure. I love this family. I love this team.”

Congratulations to the graduating senior class for Boyd Buchanan: Drew Pollard, Fiston Mugisha, Gavin McDaniel, Isaac Desai, Christian Darty, Lane Park, Sam Jones, Hayden Sarchett. Thank you for everything they have done for their school and for the game of soccer.
