Henderson Plans Alternate Budget Limiting Tax Rise To 12 Cents; Roig Presses For Full 44 Cents

City Councilman Chip Henderson said Tuesday he plans to propose an alternate city budget that would limit a property tax increase to 12 cents - from the current $1.55 per $100 of assessed valuation to $1.67. Council members Raquetta Dotley and Marvene Noel announced their opposition to the alternate budget, and Councilman Dennis Clark said earlier he wanted to go all the way to a $2.35 tax rate. Lookouts Offense Stumbles In Series Opener

The first place Birmingham Barons and their pitching staff shut down the Chattanooga Lookouts in their series opener on Tuesday night. Chattanooga collected just five hits on the night and lost by a score of 6-1. Ethan O'Donnell gave the Lookouts a brief lead in the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to score Leo Balcazar.
