The first place Birmingham Barons and their pitching staff shut down the Chattanooga Lookouts in their series opener on Tuesday night. Chattanooga collected just five hits on the night and lost by a score of 6-1.
Ethan O'Donnell gave the Lookouts a brief lead in the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to score Leo Balcazar. The Barons responded with two in the bottom of the fourth and then put the game away with five in the fifth inning.
Four Birmingham pitchers combined to strike out nine Lookouts. Austin Hendrick had two of the Lookouts five hits, all of which were singles.
Starting pitcher Jared Lyons gave up five runs in four innings. He walked two, struck out no one and falls to three wins and five losses on the year.
The Lookouts now sit nine games behind the first place Barons with a record of 15-17 in the second half. The two teams will be back at it on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. est in Birmingham.
