The revolutionary, patented Air-Rest™ touch-less arrow rest, invented by Stu Minica of DoubleTake Archery, is the Modern Marvels 2006 Top Choice Award winner.
As one of 25 semi-finalists in the Modern Marvels Invent Now Challenge, presented by The History Channel® and Invent Now® Inc., a subsidiary of the National Inventors Hall of Fame® Foundation, the Air-Rest was recently showcased in a traveling national exhibition and featured on www.HistoryChannel.com. Exhibition attendees and History Channel Website visitors were invited to cast their vote for best invention of the year, making the Air-Rest truly the people's choice for best invention of 2006.
The more than 4,200 inventions submitted to the Modern Marvels Invent Now Challenge were judged based on 1) the originality and uniqueness of the invention, 2) the ingenuity of the inventor and 3) the story of the invention and its relation to historical precedents.
Stu Minica and the Air-Rest truly and clearly rose to the challenge. Though "informed" by engineers and magnetic professionals that his concept violated the laws of physics and could not be done, Minica persevered in his quest to achieve perfect arrow flight every time using magnetic levitation technology.
The first arrow shot from his prototype proved Minica's theory correct. The Air-Rest's powerful magnetic levitation technology completely eliminates the problems other arrow rests can only try to minimize, resulting in perfect arrow flight every time.
The magnets levitate or float the arrow on air so there is no shaft contact, no fletching contact, no friction, no noise, no chords and no moving parts to wear out. During the draw cycle, the arrow slides perfectly quiet in the guide on the bottom of the rest until the magnetic fields interact and the arrow lifts by itself into perfect position - with no strings or mechanisms.
Modern Marvels Invent Now Challenge is named in part for The History Channel signature series, Modern Marvels®, which tells the stories of inventors of our past who crafted man-made wonders, technological breakthroughs or commonly used items through invention and imagination.
