Beeland Named Mayor's Media Relations Director

  • Monday, June 4, 2007

Mayor Ron Littlefield has named Richard J. Beeland as media relations director for the mayor’s office.

Mayor Littlefield said, “Richard Beeland came to us as a student intern from UTC and we were immediately impressed with his maturity, professional background and skill. He has an unusual mix of training and experience in communication coupled with a strong interest in local government.

"He comes highly recommended – including an endorsement by his predecessor.”

The position of communication director was held by Michelle Michaud until her resignation in May.

“I am humbled by this opportunity and look forward to working for Mayor Littlefield and the city of Chattanooga in this capacity,” said Mr. Beeland, who formerly held the position of assistant to the director in the office of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships.

Mr. Beeland is a 1987 graduate of Mississippi State University and holds a bachelor of arts in communication and expects to complete a bachelor of science degree in political science from UTC in August.

He is married and has two children.
