Sallie Ann Phipps, 85, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, October 29, 2010.

Originally from Chickamauga, Ga., Sallie moved to Chattanooga in the 1940’s. She was a longtime employee of First Tennessee Bank, retiring in 1995, a former member of Clifton Hills Baptist Church, and a member of the Chattanooga Police Department’s first Citizen’s Police Academy (1999).

Sallie was very active in her community, serving as a president of the Clifton Hills Neighborhood Association. She was instrumental in the creation and development of Caruther’s Park in Clifton Hills.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Anderson and Mary Ann Ballew; daughters, Lola Ann Parrish and Rita Gail Phipps; and nephew, Tommy King.

Sallie is survived by a daughter, Henrietta Seay Alexander; two grandchildren, Jesse and Jillian Alexander; sister, Louise Hale; a niece and two nephews of Oklahoma; her former caregivers, Jan Murray, Amanda Murray Dunn and Angel Murray; along with very dear family/friends, the Murray Family; and a stepson, Sam “Butch” Phipps.

Visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home with Minister Bruce Wooley of Brainerd Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Brainerd Church of Christ Mission Fund, 4203 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37411.

Arrangements are by the Chattanooga Funeral Home – East Chapel, 404 S. Moore Road.
