Don Huskey
East Ridge native and lifelong resident Don Huskey announced that he will seek the post he once held as mayor of East Ridge in the Nov. 2 general election.
Mr. Huskey said he has served the residents and community of East Ridge in a variety of capacities for most of his adult life, from volunteering to serving on community boards and in positions of public trust and service.
Mr. Huskey said, “I have been out of public life for several years, but I have received much encouragement recently to re-enter the public service arena. I believe the time is right to do so and I ask the citizens and voters of East Ridge for their consideration.
"There is great concern about apparent runaway spending. Our city’s debt is ever increasing and our budget needs to be kept under control while still looking out for the needs of our city employees and the community at large.
“Our city’s population is a little less than 21,000 people, many of whom are retired citizens who helped build this city. We owe it to these folks to keep our property taxes low and sewer charges to a minimum.
"My family is deeply rooted in this community. I have coached baseball, softball and soccer in East Ridge. I have served as president of the Boys Twilight League, commissioner of Baseball and Softball and president of the East Ridge Kiwanis Club. I proudly have a huge investment in and raised my family in this community. I again would like to serve and lead this community.”
Mr. Huskey attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he majored in business administration. He served in the National Guard for six years and spent a career as a banking executive before becoming a small business owner in East Ridge.
He concluded by saying, “As mayor, I will continue to be sensitive to the needs and wishes of the majority while standing firmly on principles. Our city deserves leaders who will be active and community minded, not directing energies and policies toward future elections. As a candidate for mayor of East Ridge on Nov. 2, I humbly ask for your vote and support. Together, we can build a strong East Ridge.”
