MURFREESBORO --Sophomore Summr Lanter’s goal off a corner kick in the ninth minute of the first half held up as Soddy Daisy defeated host and seventh ranked Siegel, 1-0, in the Siegel girls soccer tournament.
Natalie Smith’s corner kick was mishandled by the Siegel goalkeeper and Lanter’s shot found the back of the net.
“The early score really helped us and our overall team defense was good throughout the match,” said Soddy Daisy coach Moises Drumond. “And goalkeeper Haley Myers did a great job as she handled every ball cleanly.”
The No.11 Trojans had three corner kicks in the first nine minutes and converted on the third.
While Soddy Daisy scored the only goal of the match, the hosts led in corner kicks (11-5, including eight in the first half) and shots (12-7).
Soddy Daisy improves to 4-0 on the season, including two straight shutouts.
“After out early goal we were able to limit their scoring opportunities,” stated Drumond.
