James “Jim” Hicks, 80, of Athens, TN, passed away Tuesday morning, December 23, 2014, at a local health care facility.

He was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Englewood. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Bowater after over 25 years of service. Jim also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Lively Hicks; parents, Harry and Nina Mae Wood Hicks; infant brother, Harry Hicks; infant sister, Wilma Hicks; and grandson, James Dean Miller.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan Hicks Brown and husband Bob of Riceville and Terri Hicks Knight and husband David of Enola, PA; sisters, Billie Kyker of Athens and Doris Williams of Englewood; special nephew, David Kyker of Athens; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several other extended family members and friends.

 At Jim’s request no formal services will be held.

Serenity Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
