Veterans To Be Featured In "The Telling Project"

  • Monday, April 25, 2016

The Chattanooga State Community College Veteran’s Support Center and the Theatre Department have partnered with The Telling Project, a national performing arts non-profit that employs theater to deepen the understanding of military and veterans’ experiences. Chattanooga State extended an invitation to student and community veterans to participate in the project earlier this month. The Telling Project will then write and perform selected stories during September 2016.

The Telling Project puts veterans and military family members in front of their communities to share their stories. Veterans and military family members are given the opportunity to speak, and their communities the opportunity to listen.

Presenting more than 30 original performances since 2008, The Telling Project has played in 16 states across the nation and featured over 180 veterans and family members. PBS, The Associated Press, The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC, NPR, Inside Higher Ed, and others have featured the project. The Bob Woodruff Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Library of Congress, The Smithsonian Institution, and others support it.

For more information about The Telling Project, contact Kathryn Bissell, coordinator, Veteran’s Support Center, Kathryn.bissell@chattanoogastate.edu or call 423-697-2435.  Visit http://thetellingproject.org/watch/ to view examples of recorded performances.
